Diversity and Artistic Programming
I believe that diversity in the theater begins with programming committees and literary departments who select the content of artistic seasons; to foster dialogue and progress, we must commit to telling stories that are richly intersectional, using the theater as space to cultivate empathy for the many lives and experiences of those with whom we share this planet. Following this work, we must also advocate for BIPOC leadership on our creative teams. I unequivocally support We See You, White American Theater's demand for substantive changes in the ways we make theater to address the practices of systemic racism that historically and currently shape our industry.
Freelance Dramaturgy & Directing
I'm deeply invested in new play dramaturgy and enjoy consulting with playwrights about their work-in-progress. I am also an experienced production dramaturg, working closely with directors to bring stories to life. My directing work has focused mainly on contemporary plays and Shakespeare, and I specialize in working with actors of all ages in educational settings. Contact me below for more information about my freelance work.
I teach courses on dramatic literature, dramaturgy, directing, and writing for teens and adults, both in educational and community settings (both in-person and online). Contact me below if you're interested in knowing more about the courses and workshops that I offer.
I have a Ph.D. in English Language and Literature with a focus on modern and contemporary drama. My published work can be found in PAJ: A Jornal of Performance and Art, The Journal of Contemporary Drama in English, The Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts, UVA's Scholars' Lab blog, UCD's Contemporary Irish Writing blog, and the essay collection The Written Dead.
